• Minimum wall thickness:
  • 0.005″ (0.127mm) – braided
  • 0.006″ (0.152mm) – coiled

• Flat wire:
  • 0.0007″ x 0.003″ (0.018mm x 0.076mm)
  • 0.0007″ x 0.005″ (0.018mm x 0.127mm)
  • 0.001″ x 0.003″ (0.025mm x 0.076mm)
  • 0.0005″ x 0.0025″ (0.013mm x 0.064mm)
• Round wire:
  • 0.001″ (0.025mm)

Braid wire density: Depending upon wire and tubing sizes, Teleflex Medical OEM can supply up to 250 PPI. Note: Braid wire density is described as picks per inch (PPI), which is the number of wire crossovers per inch of shaft.

Braid Patterns:

• Regular Braid Pattern – This common pattern uses 16 wires in a one under two, over two pattern.
• Diamond Braid Pattern – This pattern uses 16 wires but in a two wire under two, over two pattern. This pattern tends to provide better torque and more kink resistance than the standard pattern, but the diamond braid has a slightly higher cost.
• Diamond Braid Pattern, Half Load – By utilizing half the number of wires, the diamond pattern can be produced in a one wire under one, over one pattern. This pattern provides more torque than the regular diamond pattern but incurs a much higher cost due to the reduced wire load.
